Indoor World Cup Nimes Wraps Qualification with USA on Point for Afternoon Eliminations

NIMES, France - The first major international archer event of 2018 began yesterday with qualification. Completely sold out, Indoor World Cup Nimes split qualification into four sessions, two of which competed this morning. Then, head to head elimination matches throughout this afternoon will decide who will compete in medal finals tomorrow.

In his first appearance on the Indoor World Cup circuit this season, but still with enough time left to qualify for the Final in Vegas next month, Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona) put up a 594 total, which put him third, three points behind the Netherlands' Sjef Van den Berg who took the top slot. Resident Athlete Jack Williams (Irvine, California), in the last end of the morning jumped into a six-way tie for the 29th spot, just making the cut for eliminations.

Mackenzie Brown (Flint, Texas) posted a solid 579 to hold on to sixth in the recurve women's division.

For the compound men, arguably the tightest and most competitive bracket, USA's Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Massachusetts) and Shawnn Vincent (Mt Vernon, Washington) joined Canada's Christopher Perkins in a three-way tie for second with 595s. Steve Anderson's (West Jordan, Utah) 594 put him fifth and in a seven-way tie for eighth with 593s were Jesse Broadwater (Ellenton, Florida), Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine), Bridger Deaton (Pella, Iowa), Kris Schaff (Billings, Montana), Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) and two archers from Italy.

Also making the cut for eliminations, Tate Morgan (Billings, Montana) and Paul Tedford (Great Falls, Montana) were in an eight-way tie for 15th with 592s and Jesse Clayton (Powell Butte, Oregon) finished in another seven-way tie for 23rd with a 591.

On the compound women's side, Paige Pearce Gore (Red Bluff, California), who won silver and gold at the first two stages and leads in the rankings, ended up in a three-way tie for ninth with a 585, just 6 points out of first. Cassidy Cox's (Albuquerque, New Mexico) 583 also put her in a three-way tie for 13th. Dahlia Crook (Piedmont, Kansas) will continue in eliminations this afternoon after qualifying 23rd with a 578.  

After yesterday's qualification sessions, USA junior compound men had locked down the top three spots, and held on to them through today's sessions. Carson Sapp (Cairo, Georgia) and Connor Sears (Bowie, Texas) tied for first with 594, and with a borrowed bow, Blaze Ruffing (Hubertus, Wisconsin) scored a 585 to rank third in a competitive bracket.  

Sadie Tesch (Rapid City, South Dakota) wrapped the morning in a tie for third with a 580 on the compound women's side. Daisy Lente (Albuquerque, New Mexico) finished 13th for the with a 572, and Caroline McCracken (Midlothian, Virginia) was 28th with a 555.
