COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The first quarter of 2017 was an exciting one for over 100 JOAD archers who received Olympian Awards. Many archers who participated in the Indoor Nationals were able to shoot their best scores in competition, making their Olympian Awards that much sweeter!
The USA Archery Achievement Award Program rewards progressive scoring achievements, and encourages youth and adult archers to set and achieve goals in the sport of archery.
Casey Kaufhold, age 13, shot the score to earn her Gold Olympian award at a recent pin shoot at the Lancaster Archery Academy. "I tried not to think about [the score], but it came down to the last end; I realized I couldn't drop another point or I wouldn't have it so I just tried to block that out of my mind and shoot my bow because when I do that I usually do pretty well," shared Casey.
Casey has had a great start to 2017, also winning cub recurve women's gold at JOAD National Indoor Championships with one of the five highest scores of any female in the nation. Casey credits her success: "I've been working on going to practice just about every day, getting a lot of arrows in to get all the aspects of the form down, and muscle memory just to have it the same every time." Her advice to others is: "Keep striving for your goals even though some days your scores might be lower than other days, keep working towards your goals and never give up."
In addition to a certificate and pin, Bronze JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a backpack, Silver JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a lightweight jacket, and Gold JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a belt buckle. Adult awards are recognized with Bronze, Silver, and Gold pins.
Archers wishing to shoot for these awards must be current youth, adult, or family members of USA Archery and part of a registered USA Archery JOAD or Adult club.
