COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – It is USA Archery’s honor to recognize developmental and volunteer coaches whom stand out among their peers for their significant dedication and efforts to grow the sport. USA Archery congratulates all nominees and finalists and is grateful for their continued work to promote the sport and develop athletes within the Athlete Development Pipeline.
A developmental coach is a coach of a youth club directly responsible for coaching athletes to an intermediate and/or elite level. The 2022 Developmental Coaches of the Year are Rhonda Crabtree and Frank McDonough.
Coach Rhonda Crabtree is a USA Archery Level 4 Coach from Corner Archery in Glendale, Arizona, where she serves as the head coach of the Corner Kidz Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program. It was reported Coach Rhonda is very involved and committed to the sport of archery and works with athletes of all skills levels. Her archers appreciate her ability to motivate others and build positive and impactful relationships with her athletes whom have achieved many podium finishes at Arizona state events. With over 25 years coaching experience she truly enjoys helping archers to achieve their own personal goals on that shooting line. Coach Rhonda also continues to focus on her own development as a coach and consistently participates in continuing education opportunities for coaches through USA Archery.
Coach Frank McDonough is a Level 4 USA Archery Coach at Grass Hollow Archery in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. Coach Frank has coached several archers to win and medal at National events in 2022. According to his athletes, “Coach Frank is a great teacher! He provides a well-rounded coaching experience that develops the archers physical and mental abilities. His techniques have helped young archers develop emotional stability and confidence in themselves. Coach Frank has been instrumental in developing new talent, helping veterans hone their skills, and grow the Barebow division.”
A volunteer coach is a coach who does not receive payment in any form for their involvement in coaching.
The 2022 Male Volunteer Coach of the Year is Coach Chad Jones from In-Range Archery JOAD in Richmond, Kentucky. According to his athletes, “Coach Chad is fiercely loyal in supporting his athletes no matter their performance and always has a word of encouragement. He is a hard working leader and goes above and beyond to make sure not only archery needs are met but other needs as well. Often individuals will ask for equipment recommendations, and he will buy it for them out of his own pocket. His generosity and positive attitude are unparalleled.”
