USA chasing more medals as Stage 2 of the Archery World Cup lands in China

SHANGHAI, China – Following last month’s Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 1 in the United States, during which the USA claimed four medals, the 2025 edition continues this week in China with the first of two stages in Asia.

In all, there are four World Cup stages – Stage 3 is in Turkey and Stage 4 in Spain. The World Cup Final is also in China.

The USA will be led by Olympic medalists Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold in the recurve division. Ellison is the current world number one. The compound division will include Sawyer Sullivan and Carson Krahe, both of whom were World Cup medalists in 2024.

And while world number three Kaufhold was winning silver in the recurve women’s team category in Florida, Sawyer Sullivan was claiming gold in the compound men’s team event.

There will be a number of World Cup debutants on the USA team, gaining invaluable experience on such a significant stage. These are Cham Chung, Jesse Clayton, Landyn Cox, Jacey Cypriano and Isaac Sullivan.

Cox – whose elder sibling Madison won compound women team gold two years ago – was a bronze medal winner in compound U18 men team competition at the 2023 World Archery Youth Championships in Ireland, where Chung was a teammate. Sullivan has medaled in both World Youth Championships he has featured at, in 2021 and 2023.

Clayton, meanwhile, was an individual compound silver medalist at the 2017 World Youth in Argentina, when compatriot Curtis Broadnax took gold.

Cypriano is one of two 17-year-olds on the team, the other being 2024 Rebel Gear Buckeye Classic senior gold medalist, Cham Chung.

This trip signals the start of a busy spell for the collegiate archers on the team. From China, the five of Trenton Cowles, Cox, Krahe and both Sullivans will head to Lansing, Mich. for the 2025 HotelPlanner Collegiate Target Nationals. Cowles, Krahe and Sawyer Sullivan will be representing Texas A&M, with Cox and Isaac Sullivan in the colors of the University of the Cumberlands, two powerhouses in the collegiate archery world.

Before that, though, they proudly sport their nation’s colors. Competition begins on Tuesday afternoon local time (schedule). There is live coverage next weekend of the finals with a subscription to archery+.

Remaining World Cup events:

Stage 3: Antalya, Turkey – June 3-8
Stage 4: Madrid, Spain – July 8-13
World Cup Final: Nanjing, China – October 17-19
