Those wishing to run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and to become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor, will need to complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification or above.
The class will start at 8:00 am at the Archery Range. The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 4.5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue with Scouting America Range and Target Activities policy, LHC Archery Policy, and how to conduct the Archery Merit Badge including arrow making.. This will take an additional 2 hours.
There is a three-step process to becoming a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor. One, register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 on-line Instructor course ($40). Two, after completing the on-line class, register for the USA Archery Level 1 Practical on the USA Archery website (no cost). Three, register for Practical on the Longhorn Council Training page, and attend the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical at a LHC camp ($45).
Again, a three-step process. First, go to the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification, register and take the on-line class. It takes about 4 hours, is available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be completed all at once. Passing criteria on the exam is 75%. See link below.

Second, once the participant has completed the on-line Level I class, they must then register on the USA Archery web site for an in-person Level 1 Practical Course sanctioned and conducted by a Level II Instructor Trainer. The Practical Course involves applying what has been learned in the on-line class through activities on an archery range. USA Archery does not charge for this section. See link below.

Scouters should have a copy of their SA Medical Form and their current YPT in case the Camp Ranger wishes to see them. Non-Scouters must be accompanied by a registered Scouter at all times.
The Practical Class is a busy 4.5 hours followed by BSA/LHC archery and MB Counselor information.
