CHENGDU, China – Of the 101 nations to have medaled at the World Games since its inception in California in 1981, the USA sits second on the all-time medals table and will be eager to add to its tally when the 2025 edition begins in China on Thursday.
With 161 gold medals from the World Games, only Italy (166) has more than the United States with the USA’s chances of adding to that tally helped by an archery team containing world-class athletes.
Among the archers in Chengdu will be former compound women’s world number one, Alexis Ruiz - a four-time medalist at the 2025 Archery World Cup - as well as the barebow women’s gold medalist from last year’s World Archery Field Championships, Fawn Girard.
The team includes other archers familiar with the World Cup stage in compound trio Curtis Broadnax (pictured above), Carson Krahe and Sawyer Sullivan. Broadnax and Ruiz took compound mixed team gold at World Cup Stage 3 in Turkey.
Elsewhere, Ryan Davis (pictured) will be seeking to improve on the bronze medal he won in Birmingham, Ala. at the 2022 World Games in the barebow men’s division. Recurve is represented by Andrew Querol and the veteran Gary Yamaguchi.
Target compound qualification gets underway on Thursday, the opening day of the World Games and runs through August 9. Field Recurve takes place from Monday to Wednesday of next week, before Field Barebow takes over from August 14-16.
The 2025 World Games welcomes approximately 4,000 athletes from over 100 countries, competing in 253 medal events.
