Virtual Symposium: Join those who know what it takes to step from national to international competition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Taking that next step on any sporting journey can be littered with unknowns, but the 2025 USA Archery Virtual Symposium aims to provide the answers in the session scheduled for August 26.

EVENT INFORMATION  EVENT REGISTRATION

Early Bird registration runs through Sunday, June 15.

Making the Leap from National to International Competition: Insight from Elite Archers will be conducted by Maggie Brensinger, Dr. Candice Raines and Ariel Fortenberry. It will suit archers of all ages eager to make the leap into the international arena, and particularly relevant to those who – in the past five years – have been involved at club, collegiate or JOAD level, or within the Resident Athlete Program.

Maggie, Dr. Raines and Ariel will pass on their experiences to help:

  • Empower yourself with knowledge/insight needed to pursue international archery aspirations, regardless of age.
  • Boost your confidence with firsthand advice to help you step out of your comfort zone and attend international events.

You will also receive practical advice on navigating international travel with your equipment, dealing with jet lag, embracing different cultures, competition-day routines in unfamiliar spaces, and more.

This session offers unique insights and practical advice from those who have experienced the moving from national to international competition.

Maggie Brensinger is an elite barebow archer who has competed at club, collegiate and international level. She represented the USA at last year’s World Archery Field Championships in Canada. The 20-year-old currently holds two world record in barebow U21 women and was a team gold medalist at the 2022 Pan American Outdoor Championships.

Dr. Raines began competing in target archery in 1993, participating and medaling in many National and International target archery competitions. She was a member of the United States archery biathlon team, competing in the World Championships of 1998 in Italy and 2001 in Poland. In other sports, Dr. Raines was a member of the United States Ski-Orienteering Team from 1998 to 2009, participating in seven World Ski-O Championships. Dr. Raines is now a member of US Ski-O Masters Team.

Ariel stepped into archery aged 10 and started shooting on the National level with Indoor Nationals at age 11. She began shooting on the Outdoor National stage at 13 and made two Cadet USATs and one Junior USAT before jumping into Senior competitions. At age 17, she made her first International team, competing as a Junior Recurve at the Indoor World Championships where she helped win Team Bronze and finished 4th individually. She continued her International career on World Cup, World Championship and Pan American Games Teams for five more years, competing in 10 countries before stepping back to only National events.
