NOCC Host School Michigan State on Top in Individual Finals

LANSING, Michigan - Michigan State University and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority hosted a beautiful National Outdoor Collegiate Championships this weekend, and finished out the day with one gold and two silver medals in the individual finals.

MSU Sophomore Emily Bee took the gold finish today with a 137-134 win over Columbia's Julie Anne Hoffmann. "This past year, I haven't made it very far in a lot of eliminations, so to say today that I won the gold medal match is kind of unreal," commented Bee. "I'm really happy and really proud of myself. This year I'm coming home with three medals, for team, mixed, and individual."

Kate Glover took the silver for bowhunter women after a tight match against Kathryn Novotny from Stanford. "It was a whirlwind match - we both missed, so that was crazy.," commented Glover. "There's nothing like a gold medal match without a little fun. I qualified ninth so it was very unexpected, but I'm really happy that I medaled and get to be on that podium."

"It feels great being part of the home team," Glover continued. "I've never placed top three, let alone top five, so doing it on my home turf, it's really nice that my archery family gets to see me and I can't wait to represent them on that podium. It's awesome."

"I had a rough time in qualifications, so it felt really good to shoot well today and finish out with a medal," echoed Lucas Jarrett, a bowhunter shooter from MSU. "Being part of the host school, it felt great to have a lot of our teammates here. We got to bring a lot of people because we are the host school. But in addition to shooting, there was a lot of work that went into it, so it was interesting balancing all of that and definitely a great experience over all. Huge thank you to USA Archery and everyone who worked so hard to put this event together."

"We're really happy, the kids really performed well and I'm really happy everyone had a good time here - not only just our athletes but everybody else," enthused MSU Coach Glen Bennett. "There are true sportsmen here and I'm really pleased with how everyone performed and that they made a lot of friends."
