LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Braden Gellenthien and Nicholas D’Amour are among seven U.S. archers in Europe for the Swiss Open and the start of the Hyundai Indoor World Series.
D’Amour will do battle in recurve men, as will Gary Chien and Ji Hoon So. Gellenthien competes in compound men. Other U.S. archers in Lausanne this weekend include Anette Garcia, Amanda Jessica Kendal (both recurve women) and Sarah Kim (compound women).
The Indoor World Series is an international open-entry tournament circuit, consisting of indoor events competed at a distance of 18 meters. Archers from the United States wishing to compete at Indoor World Series events will be required to have a current USA Archery membership.
The Swiss Open is the first of eight stages of the Indoor World Series, which will be followed by the Indoor Archery World Series Finals. This comes at the end of The Vegas Shoot in mid-March. Prior to that, there will be trips to Luxembourg, Brazil, Singapore, the USA, France and Mexico.
Each event prior to the Indoor Archery World Series Finals comes with ranking points, based upon the level of the event. The top 16 archers in each of the four elite categories – recurve men, recurve women, compound men and compound women – contest the Indoor World Series Finals determined by rankings points accrued from the eight stages. Brady Ellison is defending champion in recurve men.
Gellenthien last took part in the Swiss Open two years ago, finishing top after qualification before going on to claim bronze. D’Amour was a regular at Indoor World Series events last time around. His highlight was silver at the Merida – IWS 500 in Mexico, where he lost to local favorite Mathias Grande by way of a shootoff.
Garcia competes in recurve 50+ women in the USAT Qualifier Series, finishing sixth at the Easton Foundations Salt Lake Summit earlier this year.
