Eight members of the US Field Team competed in the three disciplines of field archery, compound, recurve and barebow in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The tropical climate challenged the archers as they shot during downpours, hot sun and high humidity. The host country offered a very spectator friendly field course set around Chengcing Lake. Three of the US team competed in the finals on the last day of the Games. Julie Robinson, women's barebow, finished in 4th place; Kevin Wilkey, men's compound, won the gold over Italy's Alessandro Lodetti; and Vic Wunderle, men's recurve, finished ahead of Italy's Michele Frangilli by 7 points and brought home the gold. The previous year's World Champions, Becky Nelson-Harris (barebow) and Rod Menzer (compound) both finished in 6th place. Joe McGlyn (recurve) finished 10th, Mark Applegate (barebow) in 11th place and Skip Trafford (barebow) in 16th place. The next World Field Championships is in 2010 to be held in Hungary. The US Field Nationals and World Trials will be held in the spring of 2010. Please check the calendar for dates and location.
