USA takes compound women team silver on the second day of competition in Korea

GWANGJU, Korea – The USA secured its first medal of the Hyundai World Archery Championships on Sunday with silver in the compound women team event.

Having defeated Australia, Indonesia and Great Britain, the USA team of Olivia Dean, Alexis Ruiz and Sydney Sullenberger were denied gold by Mexico in a 236-231 contest.

Earlier, elimination matches began in compound men. Those will resume on day three of the competition, with Curtis Broadnax and James Lutz still involved.

Lutz began with a 146-145 over Julio Alfredo Barillas Aragon (BRA), before firing consecutive 150s, with the second being against fourth seed Cheng Wei Chang (TPE).

Broadnax, with scores of 145, 149 and 148, has set up a last 16 encounter with seventh seed Emircan Haney (TUR). Grady Kane went out to Batuhan Akcaoglu (TUR) 146-143.

Day three begins with compound women elimination. Dean meets Michiko Brianna Gonzales (PHI), Ruiz faces Le Thi Yen Nhi (VIE) and Sullenberger takes on Andrea Ratzer (AUT).
