USA Shoots Strong in International Para and Collegiate Team Rounds

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery’s top collegiate and Para archers took on team and mixed team eliminations today to earn shots to bring home hardware from prestigious international events. Team USA is poised for gold in several events at the Nove Mesto Para World Ranking Event and the collegiate archers had a great day of matches at the World University Games.   

World University Games

The World University Games showcased a unique team round event today, with teams of only two archers per nation. The 7thseeded recurve men’s team of Matthew Zumbo and Adam Heidt took out China, the 2ndseed, in a 5-3 quarterfinal upset before falling 5-3 to Chinese Taipei in the semifinals. They will face No. 16, Switzerland for the bronze.

Zumbo and Amy Jung also climbed the mixed team brackets, overcoming an 8thplace seed to earn a shot at mixed team bronze against Ukraine. The U.S. duo outshot China and Switzerland in impressive matches on their way to the finals.

Josh Isenhoff and Calvin Gross, seeded 6th in the compound team event, and kept the USA winning streak to earn a spot in the bronze final against top seed, Mexico.

The compound team finals will run tomorrow morning and the recurve team finals will be contested on Saturday morning. Follow live results: https://bit.ly/30k43e3.

Nove Mesto Para World Ranking Event

A strong compound open men’s team, led by world medalists Ben Thompson and Matt Stutzman, two thirds of the world record shattering team from last month in the Netherlands,    qualified first with Andrew Pike and sailed through matches to seal a spot in the gold final against Russia.

Tink Wallace, Martha Chavez and W1 Lia Coryell joined forces once again in the compound open women’s team event and will also shoot for gold against Russia tomorrow morning.
