Outstanding D’Amour and Ruiz each claim silver as the Indoor World Series heats up in Mexico

MERIDA, Mexico – The penultimate stop of the Indoor Archery World Series in Mérida delivered high-stakes drama, heart-stopping momentum swings, and critical ranking implications for Team USA. With 500 ranking points up for grabs, every arrow carried weight - and the U.S. archers made their mark.

Nicholas D’Amour arrived in Mexico with the chance to vault up the Indoor World Series standings, and he rose to the occasion. Battling through a deep and demanding elimination bracket, D’Amour advanced to the gold-medal match against local favorite Matias Grande. Trailing 5-1, D’Amour staged a remarkable comeback to force a tension-filled one-arrow shoot-off. In a nail-biting finish, Grande narrowly claimed the win, leaving D’Amour with a hard-fought silver and 300 crucial points to boost his series ranking.

This podium finish, marking D’Amour’s best result yet at an Indoor World Series event, propelled him five spots upward into a tie for fourth as the series heads toward its finale at The Vegas Shoot next month.

On the women’s compound side, Alexis Ruiz lit up the range during qualification, scoring 595 out of 600 to claim the top seed. She carried that momentum through the elimination rounds, taking on fierce Mexican competitors at every stage. Ultimately, Ruiz earned a thrilling silver after a one-point showdown with second-seed Andrea Becerra, finishing 148-147 in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Ruiz claimed 300 points and stepped into eighth spot in the rankings with her first appearance of the season at the Indoor World Series.

Mérida also offered a proving ground for emerging U.S. talent. Ten American archers competed in total, blending seasoned internationals with rising stars gaining invaluable experience on the world stage. Highlights included Hanz Baek claiming fifth in recurve U21 men, sibling Haniel Baek taking fifth in recurve U18 men, and Joseph Woodrow Rosal narrowly missing the podium with fourth place in compound U21 men.

As the Indoor World Series now shifts to The Vegas Shoot, all eyes turn to the climactic finale, where series champions will be crowned and final rankings decided. For USA archers, the momentum is building, and the stage is set for more unforgettable performances.
