Arjun Archery Academy is fast making its mark in Texas and has no plans to slow down

In the quiet corners of North Dallas, where sprawling suburbs meet ambitious dreams, a small archery setup in Frisco has quietly evolved into one of the region’s fastest growing sports academies.

Arjun Archery Academy, founded in early 2023, is more than just a place to shoot arrows — it’s a growing movement redefining how young athletes engage with this Olympic sport.

The academy began with humble beginnings: a few portable targets, a small indoor range, but a big vision.

“Our goal was simple but bold,” says Ajay Kumar, founder and USA Archery Level 3 certified coach. “We wanted to introduce Olympic-style archery to our community, create a structured pathway for kids to develop, and build something that could compete on a national level.”

At the heart of the academy's formation was not just a passion for the sport, but also a desire to give young athletes - including Kumar’s own son - a place to learn, compete and thrive. What started with just a handful of curious kids in 2023 quickly began to snowball and now stands at more than 150 members!

Momentum truly picked up once the Academy’s students began competing in JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) and NFAA (National Field Archery Association) events. Parents saw real progress. Kids returned from competitions with medals and - more importantly - with renewed passion and confidence.

By 2024, Arjun Archery Academy had archers regularly representing the club at state and national events - both indoor and outdoor. Several students not only hit personal bests but landed podium finishes at regional championships. Two athletes were even selected for the South Regional Elite Team, a testament to the high level of training and dedication fostered within the Academy.

One particularly inspiring moment came when a group of students had the chance to meet and interact with Olympic medalist Casey Kaufhold. “That experience left a lasting impact,” recalls Kumar. “It showed our young archers what’s possible when passion meets hard work.”

From its modest origins, the academy has blossomed into a state-of-the-art indoor facility with up to 15 lanes, digital scoring systems, and dedicated spaces for both JOAD and High-Performance programs. It now supports a wide range of offerings - from leagues and seasonal camps to in-house tournaments and workshops.

Yet, despite its advanced infrastructure, Arjun Archery Academy maintains a community-first approach. The atmosphere is personal, supportive, and focused on individual growth.

“We welcome everyone - from 7-year-old beginners to adults discovering archery for the first time,” says Kumar. “But our core focus remains on nurturing youth in all competitive archery disciplines.”

While Kumar leads the charge, the academy’s success is rooted in teamwork. A dedicated group of associate coaches and student leaders provide mentorship, guidance, and peer support - helping newer archers build confidence and refine their technique. The academy also collaborates with visiting coaches to bring in diverse perspectives and skill sets.

“Investing in people, not just facilities, has been key,” Kumar explains. “Coaching, encouragement, and a culture of accountability make all the difference.”

Arjun Archery Academy is far from done. With its foundation firmly set, the Academy is now turning its focus toward bigger goals:

  • Expanding High-Performance programs to prepare athletes for elite-level competitions
  • Introducing Olympic Archery in Schools (OAS) to local districts through pilot programs
  • Hosting more community events, including leagues, workshops and tournaments
  • And ultimately, seeing its athletes reach national and international podiums

“Our long-term dream is to see kids from our academy representing Team USA - maybe even at the Olympics one day,” Kumar says with a smile.

For others looking to build their own archery clubs, Kumar shares candid insights:

“Start small, stay consistent. Quality coaching beats fancy equipment any day. Celebrate every milestone. A personal best can be just as important as a medal. Involve families. Parents are essential partners in this journey. And build culture. A mix of discipline and fun keeps kids engaged and committed.”

At its core, Arjun Archery Academy is about more than hitting targets. It’s about building discipline, focus, confidence, and community - while opening doors to college scholarships and a lifelong passion.

As bows are drawn and arrows fly down the lanes in Frisco, one thing is clear: this academy isn’t just shaping archers - it’s shaping futures.
