USA Archery Honored at Decatur and Morgan County Annual Tourism Breakfast

DECATUR, Alabama - Earlier this week, USA Archery was honored to be recognized with the Event of the Year award from Decatur and Morgan County for our U.S. National Target Championships and Easton JOAD Nationals, collectively known as Outdoor Nationals.

With 945 participants representing 45 states and seven foreign countries and an average hotel room night stay of four or more nights, the event was huge for the Decatur area. The event filled hotels, and as part of the event promotion and marketing, guests enjoyed an "Archery Week Discount Card" and visited attractions such as Point Mallard Park.

During the rain delays, guests hit the Decatur mall with one store reporting a 200% increase in sales the week of the event. Local printers benefitted by handling the printing for the event program and rental companies boosted revenue as providers of the massive number of tents, tables and chairs the event required.

Awarded to a person or organization whose body of work has had a significant impact on tourism in the past year, the Good Neighbor Award was presented to Stuart Goldsby. A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Goldsby now serves as the Regional Hunter Education Coordinator with the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries through the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at its Cullman office.

His long time dream has been to bring a prestigious archery competition to Decatur, and it was with his support and guidance that a bid was made to host the 2015 USA Archery Outdoor National Championships in Decatur. When Decatur was selected as a host site, he became an active part of the event team, helping to secure trained volunteers to oversee the practice field during the event and also coordinated the "Try Me" area where event guests could try their hand at archery under the supervision of qualified instructors.

USA Archery would like to again thank the Decatur and Morgan County CVB, Stuart Goldsby, and all of our tireless volunteers for their hard work and dedication to making this event so successful and welcoming to nearly one thousand archers.
