USA Archery Announces 2012 Event Schedule

Colorado Springs, CO - USA Archery has announced its event schedule for the 2012 season, in a year that promises fun and real excitement for archers of all ages.

The season kicks off in Valley Forge, PA with the World Indoor Archery Championship Team Trials, January 6-8. The team that is selected at this open Trials event will go on to compete in the World Archery Indoor Championships in February in Las Vegas, NV.

Over a thousand archers are expected to compete at the U.S. National Indoor Championships and JOAD Indoor Championships, which will take place at ten locations across the United States from February 24 through March 11, including Massachusetts, New Mexico, Georgia, Washington, California, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Kansas and Virginia.

The outdoor season then picks up with the beginning of the USAT Qualifier Series, which begins in Arizona with the AAE Arizona Cup and World Ranking Event, March 22 through 25. Archers will need to keep their game faces on, as the next event heads southeast to alligator country for the Easton Foundations Gator Cup in Newberry, FL, April 19-21.

For the top sixteen archers selected in the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials - First Nomination Shoot, there will be a trip to Chula Vista, California for the Second Nomination Shoot, scheduled for April 23-28. At this event, the field will be narrowed to eight archers vying for spots on the U.S. Olympic Team.

On April 25-28, the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials will also be held in the same location, which will select the team that will represent the United States at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, which will take place in August 2012.

2012 is also a World Championships year for field archery, and USA Archery is making preparations for the National Field Championships and World Archery Field Championships Team Trials on May 10-13, in a location to be announced.

The next event on the calendar is guaranteed to generate even more excitement, as the third and final Nomination Shoot for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will take place in Colorado Springs, CO, June 1-3. The U.S. Olympic Team for Archery will be selected at this event, which will kick off a whirlwind journey for those three men and three women as they train together to prepare for the Olympic Games in London in July.

The USAT Qualifier Series picks up once again on June 8-10, this time in New England, with the Nor'easter. This will be the final national tournament prior to the National Target Championships and Easton JOAD Nationals, a combined event scheduled to take place in Hamilton, OH, June 25 - July 1. This event is expected to be the year's most significant archery tournament, and will double as the final national competition before the Olympic Games, and will be the official sendoff for the U.S. Olympic Team for Archery.

The 2012 competitive season continues the following month, August 24-26, with the SoCal Showdown in Chula Vista, CA, and then September 14-16 with the Texas Shootout at Texas A&M University in College Station. The SoCal Showdown and Texas Shootout will be the final opportunities for archers to earn spots on the 2013 United States Archery Team.
