USA Men's Compound Team Wins the Gold and USA Women's Compound Team Wins the Bronze at the 2009 World Target Championships

The United States of America Men's Compound Team secured the gold medal versus the team from the Russian Federation.  The USA Men's team of multiple World Champions Reo Wilde, Braden Gellenthien, and Dave Cousins began the match strong.  The match began with the US shooting 5 - 10's and a 9 for a score of 59 compared to the Russians 56.  The second end finished in accordance with the first end, seeing the American's increasing their lead over the Russians, 116 to 111.

With the match heading into the third end the Americans held a five point lead but the Russians would not go down easily.  The Russian Federation shot the third round gaining a point back on the American team 173 - 169.  With the team gold within reach, the American team finished with a 9 and a flurry of 10's.  The American team finished with a victory 232 to 227!

The United States of America Women's Compound Team of Erika Anschutz, Kendal Nicely, and Diane Watson faced the team from Mexico in the Bronze Medal Match.  The Americans and Mexicans faced windy conditions that affected the archers throughout the match.  During multiple arrows the Mexican archers held for extended amounts of time leaving their teammates minimal time to shoot.   The American archers fared better through the windy conditions to secure the Bronze Medal!

From the opening end the Americans held a two-point lead, 53 - 51.  The second end saw the Americans extend their lead by four, 109 - 103.  Seizing an opportunity in the third end, the USA Women's compound team shot a commanding 59 to Mexico's 50.  Heading into the fourth and final end the US Team held a 15 point lead over Mexico's 168 to 153.  Maintaining their sizeable lead the American's went into cruise control and finished the match with a 55, maintaining the 15 point lead and seizing the Bronze Medal!

The previous day saw the Team USA Men's and Women's Recurve Teams competed at the 2009 World Target Championships.  The US Men's Team consisting of Butch Johnson, Vic Wunderle, and Brady Ellison bowed out of the competition in the round of 8 to eventual runner-up France, 225 to 220.  In the final ranking the USA Men's Recurve Team finished in 5th place, ahead of Chinese Taipei, India, and the Russian Federation.

The men's recurve team began the competition shooting against Mexico.  The American led following the first end and never looked back versus Mexico, following the four ends Team USA emerged victorious 216 to 213!  In the 1/8 elimination round the Americans faced the team from France.  Leading after the first end the Americans held a 58 to 55 lead.  The second end saw France even the score 112 with two ends remaining.  The next two ends saw the French take the advantage over the Americans, 225 to 220.  The Americans bowed out with the highest score amongst the rest of the competition to finish in 5th place.

The US Women's Team consisting of Jennifer Nichols, Khatuna Lorig, and Kristin Braun bowed out in the round of 16 to France.  The US Women score of 212 is one of the highest scores shot by an American team in recent history.  Unfortunately they faced a tough squad from France who threw up a 222.  The Americans score of 212 tied them for 9th place; the score of 212 was the highest score of those teams eliminated in that elimination round.
