This Week in Archery: How to Follow Your Favorite USA Archers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – This week, USA’s top archers scatter the globe for many exciting and important events. While 800 of the country’s best youth athletes head to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Nationals, the Para team is in the Czech Republic for a world ranking event, 2020 Olympic Hopefuls are on the way to Japan for the Tokyo Test Event, and top collegiate archers are in Napoli, Italy for the World University Games.

JOAD National Target Championships

The 2019 JOAD Nationals features a record shattering number of the nation’s best young athletes, with over 800 archers competing in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event kicks off Wednesday with official practice and an entertaining ice cream social with special guests signing autographs, music, games and prizes! Competition features two days of qualification with 72 arrows each for recurve, compound and barebow archers, followed by head to head elimination matches and then a fun, optional team round competition on Sunday.

Nove Mesto Para World Ranking Event

An impressive USA para team lineup, including World Champions Ben Thompson and Eric Bennett, is in the Czech Republic for the Para World Ranking Event running alongside the second leg of the Para Archery European Cup. The athletes qualify Tuesday, then compete in head to head individual eliminations through the semifinals on Wednesday with finals on Friday, team eliminations through the semifinals follow on Thursday with Finals on Saturday.

World University Games

The World University Games is a prestigious multisport event held every other year for collegiate athletes around the globe. The 2019 Games are in Napoli, Italy, and the archery events feature a unique competition format with two athletes from each nation in the men’s and women’s recurve and compound divisions for individual, team and mixed team events. Tokyo 2020 Test Event – Ready Steady Tokyo

The Test Event is a dress rehearsal to confirm and improve the competition and Games operation capabilities to ensure a successful operation during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The event will run similarly to the 2020 Games and in the same venues. USA’s World Championship recurve team and Para Team World Champions Michael Lukow and Timothy Palumbo are on target for Ready Steady Tokyo! Qualification begins Friday and elimination matches run one at a time through next Thursday with mixed team finals on Saturday, women’s finals on Wednesday and men’s finals on Thursday. While there will be team events in the Games, there are no team events in the test event.
