USA Archery Announces Team for 2019 World University Games

DUBLIN, Ohio – The World University Games is a prestigious multisport event held every other year for collegiate athletes around the globe. The 2019 Games will be held in Italy, and the archery events will feature two athletes from each nation in the men’s and women’s recurve and compound divisions for individual, team and mixed team events.

The U.S. Team Trials were held in conjunction with the U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships and featured 144 arrows of qualification. Competition was fierce and a strong team is headed to Italy for the United States.

The Team USA Compound squad will be world cup circuit veterans Cassidy Cox of Capella University, Dahlia Klimitchek of Liberty University, Unviersity of the Cumberlands’ Joshua Isenhoff and Union College’s Denver Gross.

“I’ll be honest, when I started college archery, I had no idea this stuff was possible,” commented Isenhoff. “I thought, three years, do some college tournaments and get out, but when I heard I had a chance to make it to Italy for the World University Games, I went for it. I’ve been practicing hard and making it is awesome. I can’t wait to go shoot for the USA.”

Representing Team USA for the recurve contingent is Matthew Zumbo of Golden West College and Adam Heidt of Georgia Southern University for the men, and Eliana Claps of the University of Washington and Amy Jung of Southwestern College.

Claps shared: “It’s an honor. I’ve worked hard this whole year and it’s nice to finally get to represent my school and for this whole journey. I’m excited for this team, Amy and I will work well together and it’s going to be a great tournament.”
