ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – With the conclusion of Team Rounds on Sunday, the 2025 WIAWIS USA Archery JOAD Target Nationals & JOAD U.S. Open came to a fitting close at Balloon Fiesta Park, with friendships forged, medals won and memories made.
Two days of competition, spanning Thursday and Friday and consisting of 144 arrows, produced 32 JOAD national champions across barebow, compound, fixed pins and recurve.
Jack Krengel and Abigail Kippes both upgraded the silver medals they won at the same venue 12 months ago, taking home gold in recurve U21 men and U21 women respectively.
Ye-eun Whang successfully defended her title in recurve U18 women. Silver went to her HSS Sports Academy clubmate, Jessimi Lyu.
Two points separated Jacob McArthur and Parker Braddock in compound U21 men, with the former crowned national champion. Three points were the difference between Lilie Aguilar (gold) and Jennifer Baker (silver) in compound U21 women. Aguilar finished fourth in 2024.
The top three in compound U18 men, led by Caleb Quiocho and including Brody Wonch and Suraj Nalam, will all be in Canada next month for the World Archery Youth Championships.
Edward Lutkehus and Vivin Sabari were level on 1,371 after two days and 144 arrows in compound U13 men. Lutkehus claimed gold courtesy of shooting one more 10!
Francesca Benavidez retained her national title in barebow U21 women. The Albuquerque native – who has been competing in recurve this year – finished more than 100 points clear of the field.
Thor Pahl – bronze medalist in 2024 – went one better this year with silver in barebow U18 men. Gold went to James Lin.
Griffin Witty was a silver medalist in fixed pins U18 men last year. He not only stepped up an age division, but he also took a step up on the podium, winning gold in fixed pins U21 men.
Jayden Azbill arrived as the 2024 JOAD national champion and left with her title intact in fixed pins U21 women.
Roman Kravchuk upgraded his 2024 silver to a gold in 2025 in fixed pins U18 men. Younger sister Elizaveta Kravchuk did exactly the same in fixed pins U13 women.
Two days of the JOAD Target Nationals were followed by the JOAD U.S. Open, an elimination competition.
Among the highlights was gold for Harper Duffner in compound U13 women, which included a perfect 150 in her semifinal win over Liliana Cosenzo. Duffner was also national champion.
Others to win golds in both the JOAD Target Nationals and JOAD U.S. Open were Abigail Kippes, Grace Joung, Jacob McArthur, Easton Rupp, Klayre Smith, Edward Lutkehus, James Lin, Medina Otajagic, Karthic Arun, Harper Blaylock, Griffin Witty and Odessa Cornick.
Roman Kravchuk was denied double after losing out in the gold medal match to Jacob Zbacnik via a one arrow shootoff. Again, it was a similar tale for Roman’s sibling, Elizaveta. She also came away with JOAD U.S. Open silver after losing a shootoff.
