Indoor Nationals and JOAD Indoor Nationals: Form changes pay off as Kaufhold claims top spot on home soil

LANCASTER, Pa. – There’s a new but familiar name at the top of the recurve women rankings after the latest event of the 57th USA Archery Indoor Nationals and 2026 JOAD Indoor Nationals were held in Lancaster over the weekend.

Casey Kaufhold – competing on her home indoor range - topped Catalina GNoriega’s previous high of 1162 with a score of 1172, to move into the gold medal position. Alex Zuleta-Visser remains third (1142).

“I’m honestly really proud of myself for this one,” Kaufhold wrote on her social media pages. “I made big form changes after the (Lancaster) Classic, and this was my first tournament to see how everything performed.

“Even through nerves, I ran my mental process almost 100% and focused on the feeling of the new form. 290, 294, 295, and 293 is what I finished with, and I’m feeling happy and grateful. Let’s keep building on this!”

There will not be a USA Archery Indoor Nationals Final in 2026, but rather prize money will be distributed based on the final combined results from all Indoor Nationals locations for each gender and division (bow type). Previously, prize money has been for those in the top six. For 2026, there will be prize money for the top 10. And there were changes among the top 10 in recurve, compound and barebow following action in Lancaster.

In recurve men, Chanyoung Mun and Caleb Chang moved into sixth and seventh respectively, with both hitting 1157. Mun was competing in the U21 division and Chang in U18.

Gaius Carter stormed into second spot in compound men, splitting the scores of leader Kyle Douglas (1195) and Sawyer Sullivan (1193) with an impressive 1194. Mason Springer now occupies fifth after totaling 1187 in compound U18!

There is just one change among the top 10 in compound women, with Taylor Miller tied for sixth alongside Mary Hamm. Miller – in the U21 women division – equaled Hamm’s score of 1171, as well as the tiebreakers of 10s and 9s.

John Demmer III landed a score of 1080 in Lancaster, which places him sixth in barebow men. In barebow women, Abigail Sparpaglione set the fourth best score with 1014, which was 71 points more than her nearest challenger in Pennsylvania.

Seven of the 18 events remain, with four more locations seeing action this coming weekend. Chula Vista, Calif. hosts for a third time, with other events going on in Illinois, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

The final three events in this year’s Indoor Nationals and JOAD Indoor Nationals take place in Michigan, Mississippi and Virginia the last weekend of the month.
