ANTALYA, Turkey – The U.S. talent depth was on full display at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage #3 with team and individual success shining through in the Mediterranean resort of Antalya.
There was a podium place for the recurve men’s team of Trenton Cowles, Nicholas D’Amour and Christian Stoddard (pictured). The trio took silver, behind Korea, but did so from 10th seed. Along the way they defeated second seeds China, sixth seeded Chinese Taipei and seventh seed India.
D’Amour was making his international debut for the United States, having previously competed for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Another debutant shone in the compound division in the form of 17-year-old Savannah O’Donohue (pictured).
O’Donohue qualified as the 23rd seed before battling her way to fourth overall following one point losses in both her semifinal and bronze medal match. Her path to the final four included wins over Tanja Gellenthien (DEN) and second seed Katharina Raab (GER).
The teenager from Louisiana was also a fourth-place finisher in compound women – with fellow-debutant Rachel Flack and Sydney Sullenberger – and in compound mixed team, alongside Curtis Broadnax.
Compound women enjoyed a win over second seeds India before defeat to eventual gold medalists Turkey in the semifinals. Broadnax and O’Donohue were defeated to Chinese Taipei in the compound mixed team semifinal. Chinese Taipei would go on to claim gold, also.
The fourth and final stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Madrid, Spain from July 7-12. The World Cup Final will be in Saltillo, Mexico from September 12-13.
