A world-class team assembled for the World Archery Championships after U.S. trials

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Olympic medalists, along with youth world champions and world cup winners, are among the U.S. talent confirmed on Monday for the World Archery Championships.

The final stage of trials across recurve and compound produced the names that will represent the USA later this year. The World Championships will be held in September in the Korean city of Gwangju.

A number of archers who competed at the most recent World Archery Youth Championships (WAYC) – in Limerick, Ireland in 2023 – have made the senior team for 2025, including Olivia Dean, Christian Stoddard and Sydney Sullenberger.

This trio are not the only archers with experience – and success – at the World Archery Youth Championships (WAYC). Jesse Clayton and Curtis Broadnax will join James Lutz in the compound men division in Korea. Both will make their debut at the senior championships but both medaled at the 2017 WAYC. Broadnax was a double gold medalist at the 2019 edition. Lutz won gold at the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.

And stretching back to 2004, Brady Ellison was part of the compound U18 men’s team which won WAYC gold, with Ryan Day and John Fleury. Ellison has six medals in recurve at the World Archery Championships. The most recent of those was team silver and individual bronze in 2021. His best performance was in 2019 when he won individual gold.

Recurve is awash with experience, notably the three women who competed at the Paris Olympics last year, Casey Kaufhold, Catalina GNoriega and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez.

Trenton Cowles – gold medalist in at the 2025 Easton Foundations Gator Cup and SoCal Showdown – completes the recurve men’s team for Korea.

Alexis Ruiz leads a talented young compound women’s trio that includes Dean and Sullenberger. Ruiz was a mixed team gold medalist with Sawyer Sullivan at the 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin, Germany. Dean has medaled numerous times on the World Cup circuit.
