Flexor SoCal Showdown Kicks Off With Record Shattering Participation

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The 2013 Flexor SoCal Showdown will take place this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. In such an important venue, competition promises to be fierce with record-shattering attendance of over 375 archers.

As the fourth and final USAT Qualifier Series Event of this year, the Flexor SoCal Showdown is the home stretch in the race for top national rankings, which culminates next month with the U.S. National Target Championships, U.S. Open and Easton JOAD Nationals in Hamilton, Ohio.

After a year of rising archery popularity in Hollywood and across America, stemming from "The Hunger Games," "Brave," "The Avengers," and the 2012 Olympics Games, young adult archers are taking the country by storm. The cadet division - approximately 15-17 years of age - will be the largest on the field, with fresh talent and seasoned youth archers sharing the shooting line.

The top 8 qualifiers in each of the cadet and junior categories who have declared their intent to compete, will advance to the World Archery Youth Championships Team Trials on Monday.

There will also be stiff competition in the senior recurve divisions with international powerhouses Brady Ellison, Khatuna Lorig, Jennifer Nichols, Joe Fanchin, and Miranda Leek all in the running for medals.

They'll be battling it out in the eliminations with rising stars Mackenzie Brown, Ariel Gibilaro, Lanola Pritchard, Lauren Clamon, Collin Klimitichek and Jeremiah Cusick. Will these young athletes, with a home field advantage, shake up the podium this weekend?

Rising talents Lexi Keller and Carli Cochran have rocked the compound divisions recently, along with Sarah Lance. Cochran just returned from the second stage of her first season on the World Cup circuit with a silver team medal. Her teammates Erika Jones, Jamie Van Natta, and Diane Watson will also be tough contenders in this weekend's competition.

Look for standouts on the men's compound side like Reo Wilde, Braden Gellenthien and Jesse Broadwater to have their hands full with emerging talents Bridger Deaton, Henry Bass and Steve Anderson, along with veteran Rodger Willett, Jr.

With such a large pool of talent, the action at the Flexor SoCal Showdown promises to be intense. For detailed results, visit
