USA Archery Hosts Youth Para Talent ID Camp in Salt Lake City

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Archery recently hosted a Youth Para Talent ID Camp at the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center in Salt Lake City, UT. Through participation in the 2021 and 2022 Move United Junior Nationals archery competitions, USA Archery identified seven promising prospects for its Para archery high performance pipeline.

During the camp archers learned about how to make the Para United States Archery Team and received expert coaching guidance for how to set goals and develop as a Para athlete. Participants were also introduced to USA Archery’s Junior Olympic Archery Development Program and Collegiate Archery Program, adaptive equipment and resources, coaches, and competition opportunities.

The camp was led by Brad Fiala, Level 4-NTS Coach and USA Archery Event Development Manager. Assistant Coaches included Randi Smith, former U.S. Paralympic Head Coach, LaNola Shepard, Level 4-NTS Coach and a former USA Archery Resident Athlete, and Michael Lukow, Level 3-NTS Coach and 2016 Paralympian. Fiala shared, “It was fantastic seeing how excited these athletes are about archery. It was a privilege to meet each of them and play a small part in propelling them towards their competitive archery aspirations.”

Participant, Keira Cromwell commented: “The camp was everything I could’ve dreamed of and so much more than I expected. It was so great meeting likeminded individuals around my age, especially since back at home most are either way younger or way older. I learned great insights and techniques to improve myself and improve my goals.”

Michael Stone, one of the parents in attendance added: “The coaches were wonderful. The amount of information that we received was amazing and will be very helpful in planning our next steps, both with shooting and training.”
