CHULA VISTA, Calif./NEWBERRY, Fla. - The wait is over and the winners are now known from the 2026 USA Archery OAS National Championship, which straddled two weekends and attracted hundreds of student-athletes from California and Florida.
OAS (Olympic Archery in Schools) is a program for middle schools and high schools. Eligible students at participating schools can join their archery team and compete with other participating school teams.
By offering archery within schools, instructors provide an opportunity for youth who may not typically participate in a sport to connect and grow on a team.
This year USA Archery offered expanded competition categories in the OAS program to include Recurve, Barebow, Basic Compound (middle school) and Compound (high school).
Competition and community came together at the Easton Archery Center of Excellence in Chula Vista, Calif. on May 2 and the Easton Newberry Archery Center in Florida on May 9, with an expanded program and some noticeable improvements for returning archers.
Take Clay Calhoon, for example. A year ago he was winning bronze as a student at Corner Lake Middle School in Orlando, Fla. This time around, he claimed gold in High School Varsity Recurve Men with East River High School. East River High School also claimed bronze in Varsity Barebow Men through Mark Kilroy.
The Geneva School in Casselberry, Fla. fared extremely well, taking gold in High School Varsity Barebow Men thanks to Isaiah Moon, as well as success in Varsity Compound Men and Varsity Compound Women through Will Frazer and Alayna Shepherd respectively. Oliver Anders topped the podium in Junior Varsity Barebow Men, a huge improvement in his sixth place finish in 2025 when competing in the Middle School division.
Compound success was also enjoyed by Mountain View Middle School.
Beaumont High School in California enjoyed a clean sweep of the medals in High School Junior Varsity Recurve Men courtesy of Maximiliano Rivera, Johnathan Kelleher and Brody Jankowski. Cianna Barboza claimed gold for Beaumont High School in High School Junior Varsity Recurve Women. Bronze went to Jennelle Parks (Wiseburn Da Vinci High School), who finished fourth 12 months ago.
San Gorgonio Middle School, based in Beaumont, Calif. were among the medals in Elite Recurve Men and Women. Landon Chagolla took silver in Recurve Men, behind Levi Belcher of Corner Lake Middle School. Chagolla’s teammate, Lily Christie, took gold in Recurve Women.
Belcher and Christie were others to improve upon their 2025 ranking. Belcher leapt from sixth to first in Middle School Elite (previously Middle School Varsity). Christie did even better, taking gold in Middle School Elite having last year finished fourth in Middle School Junior Varsity!
High Tech Middle Chula Vista set the pace on the first weekend in Elite Barebow, with the top scores standing firm at the end, as Sion Baltierra (Men) and Jazlyn Orona (Women) each won gold.
There was dominance from High Tech Middle School in Barebow Women, with them occupying the top four places come the end. Gold went to Abigail Jarvis.
Thomas Happl and Caleb Orr did International Community School proud with gold and silver in Middle School Program Barebow Men. Mikaela Hobby flew the flag for Wedgefield K-8 School in Orlando with gold in Middle School Program Recurve Women.
