Broadnax double and bronze for Ruiz and Girard as USA makes its mark at the World Games

CHENGDU, China – Only Italy managed more archery medals than the United States at the World Games in China, with Curtis Broadnax, Alexis Ruiz and Fawn Girard making the podium.

Broadnax medaled in two events, winning individual silver and mixed team bronze (alongside Ruiz) in the target compound division. Girard battled trying conditions to win bronze in field barebow women.

In the compound men gold medal match, world number one Mike Schloesser – who goes by the nickname Mr. Perfect – had to bring his best to beat Broadnax, winning 150-148.

Ruiz had earlier finished as second seed in compound women. She eventually finished seventh, as did Sawyer Sullivan in compound men. Ryan Davis took fifth overall in barebow men.

Broadnax and Ruiz were then involved at the USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open in Springfield, MO. Ruiz won gold at Target Nationals in compound women, with Broadnax taking silver in compound men. Andrew Querol (recurve men) was another to compete both at the World Games in China and Outdoor Nationals in Missouri!
