World Archery Para Championships Team Announced

Following Para Archery's first-ever open world championships team trials event, the men and women who will represent the United States at the World Archery Para Championships have been selected. Held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, the event provided close competition in several categories for berths to the team that will travel to Torino in July.

For the Open Compound women, it will be Aubrey Youngs and Martha Barnett who represent the U.S., with final points of 9 points each for the trials event. Recurve archers Lee Ford, D'arce Hess and Natalie Wells will comprise the Standing Women category, finishing the event with 10, 9 and 6 total points, respectively.

There was particularly fierce competition in the Open Compound Men's category, with eight archers competing for spots on the team. Ultimately, it was John Bellora, Dugie Denton and Eric Bennett who finished the Trials event in the top three, punching their tickets to Torino.

For the Standing Men's category, there were five competitors for three places; Michael Lukow, Steve Bosson and Travis Akin finished the event in the first, second and third positions, with just two points separating each spot. In the W1 category, Paralympian Jeff Fabry finished a strong first, followed by Chuck Lear and Jerry Shields, who will join the team in Italy. Russell Wolfe, finishing the event with ten total points, will complete the W2 group.

Para Archery Head Coach Randi Smith expressed her pleasure at the Trials event as well as the team selected, noting, "a great team - now, on to Italy!" There is significant experience amongst the team members who will travel to Torino, including Paralympic, European Grand Prix and World Championship competitors and medalists.
