USA Will Field Strong Team to World Archery Youth Championships

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Following a thorough team selection process featuring a 144 arrow qualification round and seven round robin matches, the cadet and junior archers who will represent the United States at the World Archery Youth Championships have been selected.

The twenty-four youth archers will travel to Wuxi, China for the biannual World Championships event, October 13-20. The team features strong talent in cadet and junior archers, with familiar archers and emerging stars joining the team.

In fact, spectators were treated to down-to-the-wire competition in several categories, as point totals were tied or nearly tied for spots on the team until the end of the day, with strong southern California winds making creating dramatic score and standings swings.

Strong recurve teams will feature several Rio 2016 hopefuls and many Resident Athletes. The recurve junior women's team features the triple threat of Mackenzie Brown (TX), Ariel Gibilaro (CT) and LaNola Pritchard (CA) taking to the field for Team USA. The recurve junior men's team athletes are Jeremiah Cusick (MN), Daniel McLaughlin (OH) and Sean McLaughlin (OH), the latter of whom are twin brothers.

Rising star Collin Klimitchek (TX) will be joined on the recurve cadet men's team by Andrew Mateo and Geun Woo Kim (CA). The recurve cadet women's team will feature Lauren Clamon (CA), Anna Miscione (CA) and Eliana Claps (WA), all of whom have had strong performances on the national level, and several of whom are members of the Junior Dream Team (JDT).

On the compound side, Kailey Johnston (GA), Lexi Keller (WI) and Paige Pearce (CA) should be strong medal contenders in the junior women's division. Bridger Deaton (IA), Danny Button (WI) and Alex Wifler (IA) delivered match wins to clinch their berths to China on the compound junior men's team.

The cadet compound women's team features archers from Texas, Arizona and California: the triple threat of Emily Fischer, Danielle Reynolds and Sonia Mayu Taniguchi earned their spots in a tough field. Cadet compound men's team members Tyson Pruitte (NC), Chris Bee (MI) and Justin Dixon (TX) will also compete in Wuxi.

Bee, a standout in the cadet division who is notable for involvement in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) as well as USA Archery, has also earned a spot to participate in the All-Nation All-Star NASP Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa, later this year.
