ZAGREB, Croatia - The United States team of Jesse Broadwater, Brady Ellison and Ben Rogers have claimed the gold medal - and the world title - at the World Archery Field Championships in Croatia. The squad earned the hardware with a decisive 62-55 win versus France.
The medal follows an earlier win today by the junior men's team of Collin Klimitchek, Justin Tixon and Ryland Hartman, who won a bronze medal versus Sweden.
Both teams consisted of one archer from each of the divisions represented at this event: in the case of the United States, the top qualifying archer from the compound, recurve and barebow divisions.
In the team events, the three person teams moved to targets of varying distances, at which each archer shot a single arrow.
Field archery targets - black concentric rings with a yellow center - were the focus at this event, with archers having to take uneven footholds on hilly ground.
On Sunday, Team USA will take to the field again, this time for individual gold medal matches. The United States has eight archers shooting for medals, including five gold medal matches.
Close friends Karissa Yamaguchi and Miriam Trafford will face off for the recurve junior women's gold medal; Nathan Yamaguchi will shoot for the recurve junior men's title.
Ellison and Broadwater will both shoot for gold medals, in the recurve men's and compound men's categories, respectively.
Compound archer Steve Anderson, barebow shooter Rogers and junior recurver Klimitchek will all shoot for bronze medals as well.
