USA Archery Congratulates Achievement Award Winners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery’s Achievement Award Program is designed to celebrate the accomplishments of archers of all ages and abilities as they progress in the sport from the most beginner to incredibly advanced levels of success. The JOAD Olympian and Adult Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards mark the highest of those achievements and USA Archery is proud to congratulate the following archers on their achievements in the last quarter of 2018.

In the last few months, barebow archers and mother and son duo Kim and Ryland Hartman both earned their gold adult achievement awards. Ryland commented: “Earning my outdoor gold pin shows that my hard work is paying off! I’ve been hooked on outdoor target since I took second place in the Senior men’s division at age 17 at Outdoor Nationals in 2015, after being encouraged to go for the first time. I earned my Gold pin in the JOAD program and now in the adult achievement program, which is a pretty cool achievement if you ask me! In our club we only turn in Silver and Gold Olympic pin scores if the club members shoot them in a tournament, so being able to shoot solid scores not only in practice setting but in a tournament, too, is a good measure to me that my skill level keeps improving!”

On participating in the sport with his family, Ryland added: “it’s a really cool experience. At home when we practice together, we can ask each other for advice, and with us all shooting at a high level, we can coach each other pretty well.”

Kim, who along with her husband Skip made the 2019 Barebow Masters USAT, shared: “I got into archery in 2015 because I was tired of watching my kids and husband ‘have all the fun’ at tournaments and I am so glad I did. It turns out sitting in the back of the room at 4-H and JOAD for two years, trying to ‘interpret’ what the coaches were teaching our kids, gave me a solid foundational boost. I encourage all the parents out there to pick up a bow. Archery is such a family-friendly sport. It’s fun to watch your kids, but when it comes to competition, sometimes it’s good for mom and dad to actually ‘feel what the kids are going through’. And like Ryland said, it’s wonderful to be able to help each other progress in the sport.”

On earning her gold pin, Kim agreed: “Earning my Gold Pin was confirmation that working on my Outdoor Target skills, learning more about how my bow works and trying to have a strong mental game, really can bring things together for higher achievement. My next goal is doing the same during Indoor Target season.”

These awards are part of the USA Archery Achievement Program, which provides achievement award pins for progressive scoring achievements, and encourages youth and adult archers to accomplish goals in the sport of archery.

In addition to a certificate and pin, Bronze JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a backpack, Silver JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a lightweight jacket, and Gold JOAD Olympian awards are recognized with a belt buckle.

Archers wishing to shoot for these awards must be current youth, adult, or family members of USA Archery and part of a registered USA Archery JOAD or Adult club.

Congratulations to our recent JOAD Achievement Award winners:
