TORONTO, Canada - While the US women's team seeded very well in the qualification round yesterday, their placement today in the brackets made for tough head to head matches against each other.
Ariel Gibilaro (North Branford, Connecticut) and LaNola Pritchard (Lehi, Utah) were first up in the 1/8th elimination. While Gibilaro tied the 3rd set, Pritchard held strong through the whole match for a 7-1 win.
Pritchard advanced to the quarterfinals, where she again met a teammate. Five-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, California) proved to be a tough match for Pritchard. While Lorig conceded the first set, she kept cool and reminded herself, "I've done this so long, I can do this."
Experience won out and Lorig finished the match with a 7-3 win to advance to semifinals this Saturday. But first, the three ladies will go from head to head matches to shoot together as a team this Friday.
"I'm feeling positive; everyone is doing really well, and looking forward to the team round," commented Lorig. The team rounds this weekend are incredibly important as it is the last significant international team round practice the US archers will have before heading to World Championships in Denmark to compete for Olympic quota slots.
