Can't Rain on Collegiate Parade at NOCC Opening Day

NEWBERRY, Florida - The U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships opened today at the Easton Newberry Archery Center. Unlike the perfect weather of last weekend's Gator Cup, the skies opened with rain and lightning, cutting official practice a bit short. Team morale remained high as archers from nearly 50 schools across the nation promise intense and exciting competition. Individual, team and mixed team honors are up for grabs and athletes will also compete for the prestigious Overall National Team Championship award and All-American honors.

Co-hosted by the Easton Newberry Archery Center and the University of Florida, this event gives many student-athletes their biggest stage of the year. University of Florida first year student Ryan Oliver commented: "We're feeling good. We've been practicing here quite a bit so we have some home field advantage and we've prepared all semester. Our team did well at southwestern regionals and we're looking forward to carrying that momentum into this weekend."

Oliver added: "It's definitely cool to have all these schools from around the country out here and I think it's a great opportunity for everyone."

USA Archery's Outreach Manager Callie Grieser oversees the Collegiate Archery Program and is excited to welcome all archers to this week's competition: "I look forward to this event all year. It is great to see all the archers and coaches, and the school spirit is something that is unparalleled at any other archery competitions!"

It is predicted that weather may pose a challenge throughout the weekend. The schedule and weather contingencies are available here. Live scores throughout the event will be available on USA Archery's dedicated Live Results page. Photos each day will be posted to USA Archery's photo site, and make sure to follow USA Archery on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for more from the event.
