2023 Massachusetts JOAD Outdoor State Championship

 

Event Dates & Schedule*

The 2023 Massachusetts JOAD Outdoor State Championship will be hosted July 8-9 at YMCA Metrowest outdoor center in Hopkinton, MA. A schedule of the event and timing can be found below. Equipment inspection only needs to be done once on Saturday morning before shooting. Archers will not be permitted to shoot until they have checked-in and had their equipment inspected. All competitors must have a current USA Archery membership. Massachusetts residents or those who are part of a MA archery club are eligible to become “state champion.” Non-residents are welcome to compete in the guest category.

The SAAM Summer FITA 1440 tournament will be held in conjunction with this event.  Senior, College, and Masters division archers may sign up for that event by following this link.

Seating

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide seating for archers or spectators. Please plan to either stand for the duration of the event or provide your own seating.

Drinking Water

We will provide portable toilets on the field as well as water fountains but we will not be able to provide cups for drinking water so please be sure to have all members bring reusable bottles or cups. It is strongly recommended that everyone bring sufficient water to sustain them throughout the event.

Venue Restrictions

Based upon our lease agreement for the field, spectator areas and parking lot: pets, barbeque grills, fires, smoking, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted ANYWHERE on Metrowest YMCA property. Service animals are permitted.

Parking

There is a dirt lot adjacent to the field.

Food

There will not be any concessions available on site. Please feel free to bring any prepared food items that you will need for the day. Please store in appropriate containers; on site preparation is not allowed, nor is refrigeration or warming available.

As this is a USA Archery sanctioned event, participants must abide by all applicable rules for sanctioned events as specified in both the USA Archery and World Archery rulebooks. These rulebooks are accessible at the following links:

Tournament Format

Individual Ranking Rounds

All divisions will have 3 official practice ends followed by 12 ends of official scoring on both Saturday and Sunday. Ends will consist of 6 arrows/ 4-minute end, providing for 72 scoring arrows each day, 144 total for both days. The shooting distances and target sizes vary by division and are outlined below.

Recurve: 122cm target faces placed at a distance of 70m for U21, 60m for U18, 50m for U15, 30m for U13
Barebow: 122cm target faces placed at a distance of 50m for U21 & U18, 30m for U13 & U15
Compound: 80cm 6-ring target faces placed at a distance of 50m for U21 & U18, 30m for U15, 25m for U13

Dress Code

As a USA Archery Sanctioned event, all participants are required to abide by all dress code guidelines for outdoor events at all times (including Official Practice), as outlined by USA Archery. These dress code guidelines can be found at https://www.usarchery.org/resource-center/events/rules-for-sanctioned-tournaments

Cancellation(s) two weeks prior to the event are eligible for refund, less transaction fees; No refunds granted after this time has expired.

Please Note: As a registered participant in a USA Archery sanctioned event, you are required to adhere to the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies for the duration of the event.
