Level 1 Instructor Practical Class, at Camp St. Nicholas/Frazier Park, CA

Who:  This Level 1 Instructor Practical Class is open to 5 members of the general public, as well as to Camp Saint Nicholas counselors and staff.

When:  Thursday, July 9, 2026.  8:30 AM to 3:40 PM.

Location:  The camp is located near Frazier Park, California on a pristine wooded property.  For exact location, see your Google Maps app on your mobile phone:  enter "Camp St. Nicholas, Frazier Park" for directions and distance from your location.  Street address is:  11770 Frontier Rd., Frazier Park, CA  93225.  Elevation at the camp is 6,100 feet, making for pleasant, cool, fresh-air conditions.  The Camp is a 1:45 hour drive north from Los Angeles and  a 1:15 hour drive south from Bakersfield, CA.

Material Covered:  This Practical Class features all the requisite training for a USA Archery certification as a Level 1 Instructor.  All archery equipment and classroom supplies are provided.  The Trainer will include supplemental material that is useful to new Level 1 Instructors of archery and summer camp settings.

The Trainer:  David Davenport (Coach Dave), is a Level 3 NTS Coach with USA Archery (USAA) and the National Field Archery Association (NFAA).  He has 14 years experience doing and teaching archery to new archers.  He has taught the Level 1 Practical Training three previous times.  Participants will receive a number of practical handouts from USA Archery, and many more from Coach Dave.  

Pre-requisite:  All participants MUST first complete the Online Course for Level 1 Instructor, available at the USA Archery website.  For details, visit:  https://www.usarchery.org/coaches/online-course-information/38360   
Participants should allow 4 to 8 hours to complete the online class.  USA Archery will collect $40 from each student, before taking the class.  You MUST complete this online course to qualify to take the Practical Couse at Camp Saint Nicholas.  To be clear, USA Archery will not allow you to take the Practical Class until AFTER you have completed the Online Class.

Venue:  The classroom part of the training takes place in the main meeting lodge of the Camp.  Field training takes place on the Camp's spacious archery range, in the shade of large pine trees.  Dress for cool mountain weather—sweatshirt and windbreaker.

Fees:  Members of the general public pre-pay by check or Zelle transfer, $140.  Camp Saint Nicholas counselors and staff are paid-for by Camp management.

General Public Applicants:  If you are planning on taking one of the open 5 positions, contact me right away.  I will let you know if you "have" one of the positions, or are on the "waiting list."  Those who have not completed the Online Course by Thursday, July 2, 2026 will lose their place to the first person on the waiting list.
