USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Practical Course — Class Description

The USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Practical Course is an in-person, hands-on session designed to prepare participants to lead safe, well-run beginner and long-term archery programs (e.g., JOAD, Adult/Collegiate clubs, and Explore Archery). The practical covers range setup and safety, class management, teaching fundamentals, basic equipment setup, and an introduction to the National Training System (NTS) Steps of Shooting for both recurve and compound.

Requirements / Prerequisites (for registration form)

To participate and to earn/complete Level 2 Instructor certification requirements, students must meet the USA Archery prerequisites below:

  • Minimum age: 18 (a 17-year-old within 30 days of turning 18 may attend, but certification paperwork can’t be submitted until age 18).
  • Current membership: USA Archery (Full Adult) or NFAA membership (temporary/recreational/youth memberships do not meet the requirement).
  • Current U.S. Center for SafeSport training (must be current at time of certification).
  • Current USA Archery Background Screen (plan ahead—can take time to process).
  • Completion of the USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Online Course (including the online exam) BEFORE attending the in-person practical.
  • Level 1 is NOT required as a prerequisite for Level 2.

What to Bring (recommended)

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for shooting/moving on the range
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Water bottle, snacks (and lunch if not provided)
  • Notebook/pen
  • Personal archery gear if you have it (bow, arrows, armguard, tab/release). If you don’t have equipment, confirm availability with the host.
