USA Archery Congratulates 2022 All-American Academic Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery is honored to recognize the 2022 All-American Academic Team Award Recipients. The Collegiate Archery Program gives archers a chance to compete on a national level with peers who also hold a rigorous academic schedule. This prestigious award recognizes not only excellence on the archery field, but the hard work, and dedication required to balance a heavy practice and competition schedule with excellence in the classroom.

Texas A&M University’s Trenton Cowles has had an incredible season of success, winning the Indoor Nationals Final over 4-time Olympian Brady Ellison, and also being nominated to shoot for the U.S. at the upcoming World University Games. Cowles commented: “One thing I’ve learned between high school and college is that we are student-athletes; student comes first and if we have good grades, we earn the privilege of training full time and having access to the great facilities here. To me, this award means that I made the right choice in how I decided to pursue archery and school. I decided that education was an important foundation of mental wellbeing and knowing that if archery doesn’t work out, I have something to fall back on. This helps me know I’m on the right track with being able to train at the maximum, study at a top, prestigious school and still be able to get good grades and shoot well.”

Fixed Pins Indoor Nationals Champion Madison Cox, who was also nominated to the World University Games team, shooting her Fixed Pins set up in the compound class, is also an academic leader at University of the Cumberlands. Cox shared: “Earning the All-American Academic award means a ton to me with everything going on in my life. It has been a challenge to manage to competitively shoot, keep up the work in the classroom and deal with everything this school year has thrown at me. During the school year I’m either at the range putting time in behind the bow, studying and keeping up with assignments or I am at my office job for Scholastic 3D Archery.”

The All-American Academic Team is composed of archers in each division and class and based on the following criteria:

  • Archer must be eligible to shoot in the 2022 Spring Semester (Full Time Collegiate Student).
  • Required Cumulative GPA of 3.5 through fall term 2021.

USA Archery takes the top 25% (ranked by score) of each division and class from U.S. National Indoor Championships. Archers that are in the top 25% and who meet the minimum GPA will earn a spot on the team.

Congratulations to the 2022 All-American Academic Team. These archers will receive a certificate from USA Archery commemorating their achievements.
