University of the Cumberlands return to a familiar position with victory at Collegiate 3D Nationals

FOLEY, Ala. – University of the Cumberlands reclaimed the Overall Team title at the HotelPlanner USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals, to make it eight wins in nine appearances.

The 2025 champions, University of Rio Grande came in second, with Texas A&M taking third. William Carey, which had a number of strong individual performances, took fourth.

Cumberlands head coach, Kris Strebeck, said, “I get a little emotional sometimes when you put as much time into it that we do, but these kids really came out and showed what they were working for.”

A proud Strebeck continued, “I’ve got the greatest job in the country. I get to do this every day. It’s a joy to come to work and to see all these kids hard work come in to play – it’s just amazing.”

Eight individual champions were determined, following two days of qualification and then the individual shoot-down.

Among the winners were freshman Makenzie Glenn (fixed pin college women, William Carey University), Ludvig Rohlin (barebow college men, University of the Cumberlands) and Jaxon Adkins (fixed pin college men, University of Pikeville).

Lanie Nish (University of the Cumberlands) went one better than a year ago in winning gold in compound collegiate women, while Emmie Purcell (William Carey University) improved on her 14th from 2025 with first in 2026.

Purcell said, “I came into this tournament just hoping to stay somewhere near the top – 3D is not normally my strong suit – and so to find myself seeded second and going into my first-ever 3D shootdown was absolutely incredible.”

There was a similar improvement from Chap Post (Texas A&M) in recurve collegiate men. As a freshman last year he managed 10th, returning 12 months later to take the title.

“I was just focusing a lot on hitting 10s and whenever I needed to, I’d take a 12,” Post explained. “It was just a lot of aggressive shots; if I could see it, then I was going for it. If I couldn’t, then I was going IBO, connector area and called upper on every single target so I was just going aggressive with the uppers.”

Gage Kellett, a senior at Lindenwood University, finally landed gold at the fourth attempt. A silver medalist in compound collegiate men in 2023 and 2025 and bronze medalist in 2024, Kellett secured first in 2026!

And in recurve college women, Lea-Lynn Gregorio swapped her 2025 bronze for a 2026 gold. Indeed, her score this year (447) would have been good enough for gold last year, which was won by Catalina GNoriega (Texas A&M) with 438.

University of the Cumberlands and University of Rio Grande each took three of the eight Team golds on offer. Others to triumph in the team event included Texas A&M and Lindenwood University.
