ESSEN, Germany – Leann Drake, Sydney Sullenberger and Danielle Woodie are returning from the World University Games as compound women’s team silver medalists.
The trio were third seeds heading into the eliminations, defeating Kazakhstan (233-228) and second seeds India (233-230) on their way to a gold medal meeting with top seeds Korea. Having scored 233 in their previous matches, it was that score that proved enough for Korea to take gold in a 233-230 contest.
It has been a busy spell for Sullenberger, who gets to head home having spent the second half of July in Europe, initially in Spain for the World Cup Stage 4.
Elsewhere in Germany, the recurve mixed team pairing of Trenton Cowles and Catalina GNoriega were just edged out of the medals by Korea, who won 5-1 in their bronze medal match.
Cowles, GNoriega and Sullenberger will form part of the USA team traveling to Korea in September for the World Archery Championships.
Prior to that, many of the USA’s World University Games team will be at the 141st USA Archery Target Nationals & 2025 U.S. Open, which this year is in Springfield, Mo. from August 14-17. Registration remains open for this prestigious event.
