Para archers gather for regional glory with World Championships on the horizon

CHICAGO, IL – Following last month’s 2025 Americas Para Archery Cup Leg 1 in Mexico, at which the USA finished top of the medals table, confidence will be high for a repeat as Leg 2 is held on home soil.

Seeking to pick up where they left off will be KJ Polish (compound open men) and Jason Tabansky (W1 open men), gold medal winners in Leg 1. Polish enjoyed double success, winning compound open men’s doubles with Douglas Godfrey Jr., before he and Brandi Jones secured silver in compound open mixed team.

Others once again pulling on the red, white and blue will be Karen Sternfeld and Jordan White, who took gold in recurve open mixed team in Mexico, as well as Wendy Gardner. Gardner teamed up with Jones to take top spot in compound open women.

The event comes exactly a year on from the Paralympic Games in Paris, at which Tabansky won gold on his debut.

There are 51 archers competing at Dunbar Park in Chicago, from 10 different nations, including one from the host club, North Side Archery Club. John Hill will take part in the visually impaired division.

Other nations involved this week include Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Singapore.

As well as there being world ranking points at stake, this will serve as one of the final events prior to the World Archery Para Championships, which will be held in Gwangju, Korea from September 22-28.

Scores and results from Chicago can be found here. You can catch live coverage of the individual finals on Sunday with a subscription to archery+.
