DUBLIN, Ohio – The stage is set for the fourth and final event in the USAT (United States Archery Team) Qualifier Series, the Rebel Gear Buckeye Classic, which gets underway at Darree Fields Park on Friday morning.
Lush, green grass welcomed the athletes for unofficial practice on Thursday ahead of qualification rounds for the U18 and U21 archers on Friday. That will be followed by official practice for the senior and 50+ divisions.
There will be a different winner in both recurve men and barebow men. Trenton Cowles (recurve) and Jordan Graham (barebow) have taken gold the past two years, but neither is competing this time around. For his part, Cowles is taking part in the World University Games in Germany and will be chasing mixed team bronze with Catalina GNoriega.
Ron Gosnell is back to defend his recurve 50+ men’s title, won last year with a 7-1 win over Tom Stevenson. Lori Cieslinski will also be eager to cling onto her recurve 50+ women’s crown, which she claimed in a hard-fought battle with top seed Jamie McCarrison.
Mathias Fullerton (DEN) and Carson Krahe are both in Dublin. They were gold medalists in the senior compound division 12 months ago. Fullerton shot a perfect 150 during his semifinal win over Sawyer Sullivan, which included 13 Xs. The previous record, first set in 2015, was 12.
Diane Cochran is the reigning champion in barebow women but will face competition from Arizona Cup winner Kay Earls, as well as Sara Gebhardt, Cindy Czako and Cindy Graham, the silver medalist last year.
Other returning champions include Richard Barker (barebow 50+ men), Barbara Carroll (barebow 50+ women), Sarah Gardner (recurve U21 women), Ye-eun Whang (recurve U18 women), Lanie Nish (compound U21 women), Taylor Miller (compound U18 women), Ethan Mitchell (barebow U21 men), Madalynn Puryear (fixed pins U21 women), Audrey Overton (fixed pins U18 women), Sharon Totton (compound 50+ women), Timothy Palumbo (recurve open men) and Douglas Godfrey Jr. (compound open men).
The recurve division will see the return of Brady Ellison, Casey Kaufhold and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez. All three missed last year’s edition as they were representing Team USA at the Olympic Games in Paris.
There will be live coverage of the 2025 Rebel Gear Buckeye Classic senior gold medal matches on Sunday afternoon from 2pm ET on USA Archery’s YouTube channel. You can follow live scores and results throughout the event, as well as find photos from each session.
