USA Archery Calls for Nominations for Athletes' Advisory Council Elections

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Archery is now seeking nominations for two elections. The first upcoming election is for the US Olympic Committee's (USOC) Athletes' Advisory Council (AAC) with one alternate position open for a recurve or para athlete. The second is for the USA Archery Para AAC with one military, three compound and two recurve positions open for election.

USOC AAC

The mission of the USOC AAC is to ensure communication between the USOC and athletes who are actively engaged in amateur athletic competition or who have recently represented the United States in international competition. This alternate position will serve through December 31, 2020 on the USOC Athlete Council and on the USA Archery Athlete Advisory Council. Alternates are responsible for communicating with all elite athletes in their sport on a regular basis, communicating with the AAC Representative on a regular basis, reviewing all materials sent by the USOC AAC, and attending USOC AAC meetings when the Representative is not available. Learn more about the USOC AAC

To be eligible to serve as an alternate on the USOC AAC an athlete must (i) compete in the recurve discipline (Olympic) or recurve or compound disciplines (Paralympic) and (ii)have represented the United States in Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American, Para Pan American orother major international competitions designated as USOC Operation Gold competitions within the ten-year period prior to December 31, 2018. Athletes must also be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, and meet all requirements outlined in the USOC AAC Bylaws.

USA Archery Para AAC

USA Para AAC members advise the Board of Directors and USA Archery staff on any issue relating to athletes or athlete rights. Council members represent the athlete membership and act as a voice on their behalf. They are responsible for broadening communication between USA Archery and active athletes. They review all team selection procedures and athlete support programs. The term length is 4 years for USA Archery Para AAC Compound and Military positions. The term length is 2 years for the USA Archery Para AAC recurve positions to implement staggering of position terms.

Those individuals: (i) who have represented the United States as athletes in the Paralympic Games, the Para Pan American Games, Para World Championships or other major international competitions in the sport of Archery designated as USOC Operation Gold competitions within the ten year period prior to December 31, 2018 or (ii) who have placed in the top half of the Para Senior division at the USAA's National Outdoor Target Championships as athletes within the two year period prior to December 31, 2018 ("Eligible Para Athlete") are eligible to serve on the USA Archery Para AAC.

Additionally, USA Archery Para AAC nominees must be eighteen years of age or older by December 31, 2018, a citizen of the United States, a member in good standing with USA Archery and have a current Background Screening and SafeSport certification(all of which must be maintained through the duration of service on the AAC/Para AAC Council and cannot lapse for more than 30 days, if elected).

Compound representatives elected to the USA Archery Para AAC will be eligible to run for the position of Compound Representative to the USA Archery Board of Directors in 2019. The Compound Representative to the Board of Directors shall be directly elected by Compound Athletes who meet the "Eligible Athlete" and "Para Eligible Athlete" requirements by majority vote for a term of 4 years.

Article Edited September 25, 2018: Following further discussion with the USA Archery Board of Directors, this article was amended to remove mention of USA Archery's Athletes' Advisory Council election. The USA Archery AAC compound members will complete their current terms and serve until 2020.
