Trafford Joins Ellison and Broadwater in Winning World Championship Titles

ZAGREB, Croatia - Miriam Trafford is no stranger to the World Archery Field Championships. In fact, there has been a member of the Trafford family - some combination of father Skip, mother Charlene, and siblings Rachael, Heather, Miriam and Hardy - in the finals of every World Archery Field Championships since 2008.

Miriam became the new world champion in the recurve junior women's category today, clinching a hard-fought gold medal against teammate and close friend Karissa Yamaguchi. Charlene, a member of the American team for this event as well - in the barebow division - stood in as her daughter's coach.

Also winning World Championship titles today: Olympic silver medalist Brady Ellison, claiming his first ever World Archery Field Championships title versus silver medalist Jean Charles Valladont of France, and compound superstar Jesse Broadwater, who successfully defended the title he won in 2012 against Great Britain's Chris White.

"It was a really good match," Broadwater told World Archery. "I knew how hard Chris [White] prepared for the championships, and that's all on himhe made it a great match the whole way through."

Today's finals were also a family affair for recurve junior women's silver medalist Karissa Yamaguchi and her brother Nathan, who earned silver today in the recurve junior men's category.

The American squad also claimed a few close 4th place finishes following today's individual bronze medal matches. Barebow standout Ben Rogers - part of the gold medal winning men's team - joined Steve Anderson and Collin Klimitchek in coming very close to medals but just missing out. Team USA also claimed a bronze medal yesterday, in the junior men's category.
