USA Archery Proudly Introduces 2017 USAT

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The United States Archery Team, "USAT," consists of the best master, senior, para, junior and cadet archers in the country, selected based on performance in several national events over a yearlong season. In 2016, USA Archery expanded USAT opportunities to reflect the many diverse competitive groups within the sport by adding the master class and barebow divisions.

Olympian Rick McKinney (Gilbert, Arizona) joined fellow Olympian Glenn Meyers and Tom Stevenson in earning spots on the master recurve men's USAT. The three have been competing together for years, including multiple Olympic Games and World Championships: "It's really an honor to make the first Master USAT," commented McKinney. "We've been shooting together since we were teammates at ASU and we made the very first USAT in 1981."

"It is an honor for me to be a member of the first barebow USAT," commented Abigail Weir (Grass Valley, California) after ranking first for the junior barebow women and winning team bronze at the World Archery Field Championships this fall. "I am certainly excited at the prospect of being able to compete for the team every year from now on, and hopefully it will motivate more barebow archers to participate in competitions, as well. I am so thankful to USA Archery for adding barebow archers to the team."

Archery continues to grow in the U.S., especially within the youth divisions. USA Archery was thrilled to host over 1,000 archers at the 2016 Outdoor Nationals, and to see the increased level of competition among archers of all ages.

Crystal Gauvin (Dayville, Connecticut), who ranked first among many great archers in the highly competitive compound senior women's division, commented: "It really means a lot to me to make USAT this year. The depth of the senior women's division is really growing quickly. I missed one event and struggled to open the season domestically, so it is a great accomplishment for me to finish in a good position for World Cup events. I am already looking forward to the 2017 season."

USA Archery congratulates our archers on another amazing season, especially those who excelled to the highest level and made the USAT selection. View the complete 2017 USAT Selection Procedures.
