LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical

Those wishing to run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and to become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor will need to complete the USA Archery Level I Instructor Certification or above.

 

First, the participant must register on-line with USA Archery and successfully complete the On-Line Level I Instructor Course through the USA Archery web site. The class is $40 payable to USA Archery. See instructions below.

 

Second, once the participant has completed the On-L Level I class, they will then be able to register on the USA Archery web site for any Level 1 Practical Course sanctioned and conducted by a Level II Instructor Trainer. The Practical Course involves applying what has been learned in the on-line class on a range. Registering for the Practical Couse allows the Level II Trainer a portal for immediate certification upon successful completion. USA Archery does not charge for this section. Those seeking to complete the USA Archery Certification through the Longhorn Council will need to locate and register for the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Practical on the USA Archery Course site at no charge.

 

Third, you will also need to register for the Practical class through the LHC training page. The cost is $45.

The Level 1 Practical Class will be conducted at Camp Tahuaya Scout Ranch just south of Belton, Tx.. The class will start at 8:00 am at the Archery Range. The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 4.5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue BSA Shooting Sports policy, LHC Archery Policy, and how to conduct the Archery Merit Badge including arrow making and string making. This will take an additional 2 hours.

 

Instructions on registering for the online Instructor course, please follow these steps:

Go into the USA Archery web site and register for the Level 1 On-line Instructor Course. This will take about 4 hours but can be done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and apparently can be stopped and restarted as you need. See:

Again, once you have completed the On-Line Level 1 Instructor Course, go back into the USA Archery web site where course are listed and select the USA Level 1 Practical at Camp Tahuaya/Belton. Register for this course at no cost. See:

Finally, register for the USA Level I Practical at Camp Tahuaya/Belton. Cost is $45.

NOTE: Closing date for the course is Friday January 20^th, 2023.

Since MBCs must be 18, that is the normal minimum age, but, if parents are present, Scouting youth with archery experience/interest down to age 15, will be considered with Instructor approval.
