LANSING, Mich. – Texas A&M University captured the overall team title at the 2026 Hotel Planner USA Archery Collegiate Nationals, but one athlete arguably captured the hearts in winning gold after being told she would never draw back a bow in her life.
The Aggies of Texas A&M reclaimed the Overall Team Championship, which they last won in 2024, with defending champions University of the Cumberlands taking second and the University of Rio Grande finishing third.
Anastacia Godman was involved in a serious car accident last year, sustaining injuries which impacted her ability to do the sport she loved.
“On March 28 of 2025, I was in a car accident where I was t-boned by a minivan and also hit by a semi-truck,” Anastacia began. “It broke my collarbone, I had a hairline fracture of my wrist – the one that I pull with, specifically – concussion, amnesia, whiplash, the whole nine yards.
“The doctor told me that I was not going to be able to shoot again but I’ve been shooting for 12 years now, and this was something they were not going to take away from me. I was going to make the recovery one way or another.”
Not only did Anastacia, of Lindsey Wilson University, return to competitive archery but she returned to Collegiate Target Nationals 14 months after the accident and won individual barebow bronze and mixed team gold.
Mixed team gold was won alongside Keegan Benton, who had earlier delivered a 6-0 defeat of Colton Converse in barebow college men.
Texas A&M were involved in five of the eight individual gold medal matches, which took place on Sunday morning at Hope Sports Complex. Gold medals were enjoyed by Jack Krengel in recurve college men and Rendyn Brooks in compound college women. They also landed gold in recurve and fixed pins mixed team.
Fixed pins success went to James Brown and Chaney Elliott. Chaney was one of many student-athletes for whom this was their final outing in collegiate colors, with graduation ceremonies either already completed or scheduled for the coming days.
Bekah Follette (Wabash Valley College) got the better of top seed Kelly Hawvermale (Muskingum University) in the barebow college women gold medal match, but not before Kelly had set a new national record (pending verification) in qualification with a total of 623. The previous best score for 50m Barebow Collegiate Women was 620.
Team rounds were determined on Saturday, with the Campbellsville University trio of Zoey Hudson, Madaline Teipen and Megan Wallace causing something of an upset with victory in barebow college women, defeating Lindsey Wilson’s Anastacia Godman, Maria Sampson and Megan Wallace in a shootoff. You could see how much victory meant to Campbellsville, with Madaline racing into the spectator area to embrace her dad, celebrating a national championship at the end of her senior year.
