2023 Virginia State Outdoor Championship

Welcome to the 2023 Virginia State Outdoor Championship!

FFX Archery will host the 2023 Virginia State Outdoor Championship at the Bull Run Special Events Center in Centreville VA on August 19-20, 2023.

Updated 7/20/2023: The tournament will begin at 8:00am each day.

This is a two-day, 144-arrow double 720 round (12 shooting ends of six arrows each day) with two practice ends each day at the beginning of the session. All archers will shoot at their outdoor competition distance (see below).

This event is intended to serve as a preparatory event for 2023 USA Archery Target Nationals.

Archers who shoot Recurve or Barebow will shoot a 122cm target face at their assigned competition distance. Recurve outer 10-ring will be in effect. Inner 10s will score as an X.

Archers who shoot Compound will shoot an 80cm 6-ring target face at their assigned competition distance. Compound outer 10-ring will be in effect. Inner 10s will score as an X.

Age Classes:

Participants may compete as a “U13” through the calendar year of their 12th birthday

Participants may compete as a “U15” through the calendar year of their 14th birthday

Participants may compete as a “U18” through the calendar year of their 17th birthday

Participants may compete as a “U21” through the calendar year of their 20th birthday

Participants of any age may compete in the “Senior” age class

Participants may compete as a 50+ from 50 years of age through 59 years of age

Participants may compete as a 60+ from 60 years of age through 69 years of age

Participants may compete as a 70+ from  70 years of age or older

Senior Male and Female Recurve - 70m; 122cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

U21 Male and Female Recurve – 70m; 122cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

U18 Male and Female Recurve - 60m; 122 cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

U15 Male and Female Recurve - 50m; 122cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

U13 Male and Female Recurve - 30m; 122cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

50+ to 70+ Male and Female Recurve – 60m; 122cm target face, 6 arrows per end, 12 ends per day

Senior Male and Female Compound – 50m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

U21 Male and Female Compound- 50m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

U18 Male and Female Compound - 50m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

U15 Male and Female Compound - 30m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

U13 Male and Female Compound - 25m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

50+ to 70+ Male and Female Compound – 50m; 80cm 6-ring target face*, 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

Senior Male and Female Barebow – 50m; 122 cm target face; 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

Barebow+ U21 and U18, Male & Female – 50m; 122 cm target face; 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

Barebow+ U15 and U13, Male & Female – 30m; 122 cm target face; 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

50+ to 70+ Male and Female Barebow - 50m; 122 cm target face; 6 arrow ends, 12 ends per day

+ A “Barebow” by definition is a Recurve bow without a sight or other accessories.

*All Compound archers will shoot on their own individual target face using the 80-centimeter multicolor 6-ring target face that scores out to the 5-ring.

Schedule: All archers will report for equipment inspections no later than 7:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2023. 

As soon as equipment inspections are completed, we will hold two practice rounds beginning at 8:00am followed by a 72-arrow round.

The following day, August 20^th, we will hold two practice rounds beginning at 8:00am followed by a second 72-arrow round.

We will have a maximum of 100 archers. 

Please plan to arrive early to set up equipment and complete check-in and equipment inspection before we begin the tournament.

Awards: We will hold an awards ceremony shortly after the Sunday shooting session ends. If you win an award and cannot be present to receive it, please make arrangements to pick it up or have another archer receive on your behalf.

Coaches, Parents, and Spectators: No coaches/parents/spectators will be allowed in the athlete area. This includes during practice. No exceptions. No coach credentials will be issued.

Shouting/yelling to the athletes during any shooting session is not permitted.

Athletes may set up canopies in the athlete area as space permits. Coaches, parents, and spectators may set up canopies in the spectator area as space permits. You will need to bring chairs for your athletes, spectators, and coaches.

Fees: Early Bird Registration Fee: $75 until August 1, 2023

Late Registration Fee: $100 from 8/1/23 until 8/14/23

If you need to cancel your registration, you may receive a full refund minus transaction fees if we receive your cancellation e-mail no later than August 1, 2023. If you cancel after August 1, we cannot provide a refund. 

All competitors must be USA Archery members, and must follow the USA Archery Dress Code.
