COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2005 National Archery Association (NAA) National Indoor Championships and Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) National Indoor Championships were held over the past four weekends at 10 different regional locations throughout the United States. Over 1500 athletes from around the country competed at the event for National Indoor Titles.
Four-time Olympian Butch Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) finished in first place in the Male Senior Recurve Category with a score of 1179. Finishing in second was Shawn Rice (Stephenville, Texas) with a score of 1171 and two-time Olympian and number one ranked Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.) took third with a score of 1170.
In the Female Senior Recurve Category, UCLA student Kate Anderson (Los Angeles, Calif.) won the National Title with a score of 1129. Dawn Chudy (Media, Pa.) took second with 1126 and Columbia University’s Stephanie Miller (Naperville, Ill.) was right behind her finishing in third place with 1124.
In the Male Senior Compound Category, 2003 World Target Championship Team Gold Medalists Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine), Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) and Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Mass.) finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Cousins ended the tournament with a score of 1193, while Wilde had an 1190 and James Madison University’s Gellenthien finished with 1186.
For the Senior Compound Women, 2003 double World Target Championship Gold Medalist Mary Zorn (College Station, Texas) finished in first place with a score of 1171, while Christine Colin (Cape May, N.J.) took second with 1163 and Nancy Zorn (Warrenville, Ill.) finished third with 1156.
In the Male AR2 Recurve Category, 2004 Paralympic Bronze Medalist Kevin Stone (Adrian, Mich.) took first place with 1077, while Russell Wolfe (Williamsburg, Va.) finished in second with 995.
For the AR3 Standing Recurve Category, Karl Keranen (Silverado, Calif.) won the National Title for the men with a score of 879 and University of Texas student and 2004 Paralympian Lindsey Carmichael (Lago Visto, Texas) took first for the women with a score of 1108. Carmichael also finished in fourth place with her score of 1108 in the Female Senior Recurve Division and third place in the Female College Recurve Division.
