COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) awarded the March Team of the Month honor to the 2005 Men's World Indoor Compound Archery Team. They named figure skater Sasha Cohen and skier Bode Miller as its March Athletes of the Month.
Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho), Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine) and Rob Menzer (Sheboygan, Wis.) defeated Italy to win gold at the 2005 World Indoor Championships in Aalborg, Denmark this past March. In their quarterfinal match against Great Britain, the team shot a world record score of 269 points out of a possible 270 to beat the previous record of 267.
Mary Zorn (College Station, Texas) placed third in the women's vote for Athlete of the Month. Zorn claimed the individual gold medal in the female senior compound category at the 2005 World Indoor Championships, beating Fatima Agudo of Spain, and setting a new 36-arrow finals world record of 356 out of a possible 360.
Reo Wilde finished third in the vote. Wilde was the only archer at the 2005 World Indoor Championships to successfully defend his title. He defeated Sweden's Morgan Lundin to take home the gold in male senior compound. Wilde also won gold in the team event.
