 2005 JOAD Nationals to be held at Disney’s Wide World of Sport Complex June 23-26

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. is hosting the 24th Annual Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) National Championships June 23-26. Over 200 young archers from around the country ranging in age from 6 to 18 will gather to compete for a JOAD National title. The event will feature many of the top juniors from around the United States including Junior United States Archery Team (USAT) members and Junior World Champions as these archers compete not only for a National Championship, but also for the chance to set new national and world records.

Thursday, June 23 will be the official practice day, with competition kicking off Friday, June 24. The FITA long distances will be shot on Friday and the FITA short distances will be shot on Saturday, June 25. The Junior U.S. Open, which consists of Olympic Round head-to-head match play, will conclude competition on Sunday, June 26.

The following 2005 USA Archery USAT Members will be competing at the JOAD Nationals: men’s recurve: Jonathan Miller (Naperville, Ill.) and Daniel Schuller (Mercer, Pa.); women’s recurve: Lindsay Pian (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Heather Pfeil (Boston, N.Y.), Danielle McCullough (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Margot Stuchin (New York, N.Y.); men’s compound: David Roth (Lowell, Mich.), Travis Lafayette (Dripping Springs, Texas) and Brady Ellison (Glendale, Ariz.); women’s compound: Aprilyn Witt (Wadell, Ariz.), Jessica Mattson (Canton, Mich.), Brittany Lorenti (Trumbull, Conn.) and Holly Heinsohn (Halletsville, Texas).

Six members of the 2005 Junior World Indoor team will also be competing for a JOAD National title. Brady Ellison won the individual gold medal at the World Indoor Championships this past March in Aalborg, Denmark in the junior male compound category. David Roth won the bronze medal for the junior compound men and also set a new 36-arrow finals world record. Aprilyn Witt finished in fourth place individually for the junior compound women.

Lindsay Pian and Stephanie Rowland (Orchard Park, N.Y.) were members of the junior women’s recurve team that won a bronze medal in the team event in Denmark. Daniel Schuller finished the individual competition in sixth place in the junior recurve male category.

These young men and women along with many other accomplished youth archers will make for a competitive, fun-filled 2005 JOAD National Championships. For complete results throughout the JOAD Nationals, please visit www.floridaarchery.org or www.usarchery.org.
